The AARP, the nation's largest lobbying group serving older Americans, is facing a backlash from members who are opposed to President Obama's plans to reform health care by cutting Medicare.
The group has not officially endorsed a health care plan, but is working closely with the administration and Congress to develop one, and that has stirred anger among some of its 40 million members who view the alliance as somewhat of a betrayal.
Tens of thousands have left the AARP and gravitated to the American Seniors Association, which describes itself as a center-right group that is opposed to Obama's plan.
"The AARP has really just moved to the left in recent years and wherever there is a vacuum, something will fill it and in this case it is the American Seniors Association," said Phil Kent, spokesman for the new group.

OBAMA'S HEALTH INSURANCE TAX: COMING SOON TO ALL POLICIES

The Baucus healthcare bill provides for a tax on "gold-plated" health insurance policies. But, as with the Alternative Minimum Tax, once slated to be imposed only on the wealthy, inflation will make most Americans liable to pay the 40 percent tax in a few years.
The tax applies to all individual policies with premiums above $8,750 and families of four whose premiums exceed $23,000. But the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the average health insurance premium for families of four will reach $25,000 by 2018. The average premium should pass the thresholds in Baucus's bill by 2016.
So, a few years after the bill takes effect in 2013, the health insurance premium tax will become virtually universal. And this tax is to be a 40 percent levy. So, in six years, the average family health insurance policy, now projected to cost $25,000, will, in fact, cost $35,000 due to the Obama-Baucus tax!
The Baucus bill tax threshold is, of course, not indexed for medical inflation or even for regular inflation. (Premiums have been rising at 10 percent for a decade and the average family premium now is 109 percent higher than it was 10 years ago.)
Will Congress act, in the future, to index the health insurance premium tax so it does not reach down to the average American's policies? Not very likely. As costs rise under ObamaCare (as they have in Massachusetts, where they have more than doubled in two years), the pressure for increased revenue will dictate that Congress let the tax grow and expand its reach until it is a universal tax that pays for universal care.
Until now, the Obama plan has not meant much for the average American who now has insurance. While scarcity of doctors and medical care is a likely result, the harm was largely confined to the elderly, who will bear the brunt of the rationing. But now, the Baucus bill shows that the real story is quite different. In a few years' time, most families will find their health insurance premiums 40 percent higher because of the new tax. Far from cutting the cost of health insurance, the bill will send it through the roof!

Abdellah was, described October 25, 1993 by the New York Times, as the “most aggressively combative of the lawyers” representing the terrorists who staged the 1993 World Trade Center attacks. His client, the Egyptian-born Mahmud Abouhalima, was convicted of helping to manufacture and transport the bomb detonated in the 1993 attack and is now incarcerated in the Federal “Supermax” prison at Florence, Colorado.
In 2004 Abdellah represented Numan Maflahi, a New Jersey Muslim tied to al-Qaeda fundraising. The New York Times July 10, 2004 reported:
Prosecutors said Mr. Maflahi, a gas station owner who lives in Little Ferry, N.J., had been the driver and personal assistant for Sheik Abdullah Satar, a former member of parliament in Yemen. They have described Sheik Satar as a fund-raiser with ties to Al Qaeda.
Yesterday, Mr. Maflahi’s lawyer, Hassen Ibn Abdellah, told Judge Nina Gershon of Federal District Court in Brooklyn that her sentencing decision was a test of whether “this country could be fair to Arab-Americans.”
Five years later, why does the “aggressively combative” Abdellah think his “Time Has Come”? The August 31 Newark Star-Ledger explains: “It was President Obama’s words at his inauguration in January, and then his speech in Egypt in June, that led Abdellah and an area imam, Abdul Malik, to begin discussing the idea….”

Once again, the Liberal Area Times has shown its true colors. The Times finds Mr. O'Keefe's methods "distasteful". However, the Times seems to have no qualm with the felonys committed on the taxpayer dime. You mention Acorn performs worthwhile work in poor communities and registers voters. Tell us again, how many states are they under indictment for voter fraud, 10,12, more? It would appear Mr O'Keefe and Ms Giles scouped your staff on a story and will probably win a Pulitizer before you guys do.


Why in the world do you find that, "O'Keefe's hidden-camera methods are distasteful..."? Is the use of "hidden camera methods" so distasteful. Why Mike Wallace was using them long before 60 MinutesSurely The Times will acknowledge that this publicly funded organization has been engaged in unscrupulous tactics. And that these tactics are a legitimate focus of investigation by the press. The press has a unique role in American society; a role that is to protect the people from corrupting influences on public life.

The question is why the press has ignored ACORN and given it a free pass? If the press had been fulfilling its responsibility to the people, and had the press been doing its job, there would be no need for someone else to do it for them!

Now that's 2 milligrams because I only had like 3 or 4 a day but - 3 or 4 cigarettes a day when I was smoking - but if you're a heavier smoker you may need the 4 milligrams. It's not bad, though. It works well."
October 2008 - "There wasn't some dramatic moment [when I quit]." "Michelle had been putting pressure on me for a while. I was never really a heavy smoker.
